Sissieretta Jones, America's first Black opera diva, has been buried in Providence for 85 years in an unmarked grave. After a stellar 28 year international career, she died penniless and all but forgotten. Now, thanks to a fundraising campaign, she will have a headstone she deserves. The stone will have a "memory medallion," the first in the state, that will take visitors via smartphone to a website all about her life and career.
Reception at 5pm; Headstone dedication at 6pm
