Invisible No More: Women of Color Standing Together

Invisible No More: Women of Color Standing Together

Hosted by Sista Fire

On Saturday, October 27th, 2018SISTA FIRE invites you to join us for a day of uplifting women of color. SISTA FIRE is co-creating a network for women of color to build collective power for social, economic, and political transformation in Rhode Island.

Over the course of a year, we have worked diligently to collaborate with young women of color to create, disseminate, and collect community surveys. The purpose of the survey was to gather information about the lived experiences and quality of life for women of color in Rhode Island. We hit the streets canvassing at community parks, farmer’s markets, hair salons and nail shops. We talked one on one with women from Black and Black Immigrant communities, Latinx, and Southeast Asian communities who were willing to share their stories with us. At the end of our community outreach, we were able to obtain 300+ community surveys.

We invite you to “Invisible No More: Women of Color Standing Together”, a community forum for and by women of color. During the first half of the community forum, we worked with the Design Studio for Social Innovationfrom Boston, MA to design a Creativity Lab that will actively engage participants. The lab is predesigned for participants to walk in and engage with the data that was collected from the community surveys and interviews. For the second half of the community forum, we will be hosting a panel discussion that explore the issues and themes that arise from the data. We hope that you will join us in this momentous occasion and disrupt the narrative about women of color in Rhode Island.

If you are seeking childcare, please register with this form. SISTA FIRE is committed to creating space for moms to actively engage in community space.
